The LiDE 400 combines high image quality with fast scanning performance. Canon specifies an A4 colour scanning time of approximately 8 seconds at 300 dpi, while a 4 × 6-inch colour photo can be scanned in approximately 4 seconds at 300 dpi. The scanner uses a Contact Image Sensor (CIS) with a three-colour RGB LED light source and supports 48-bit colour input, allowing it to capture detailed colour information from photographs, graphics and documents.

Convenience is built into the scanner through its five EZ buttons, providing quick access to Auto Scan, Copy, PDF and Send functions. Auto Scan Mode can automatically detect the type of original and select appropriate settings when used with compatible Canon scanning software. The dedicated PDF buttons also make it easier to create multi-page PDF files, while compatible software supports OCR (Optical Character Recognition) for extracting text from scanned documents.

The CanoScan LiDE 400 is also designed to minimize cable and desk clutter. Its USB Type-C connection supplies both data and power, so no separate AC power adapter is required. The scanner can also be used in an upright position with its included vertical stand, helping save valuable desk space. Its Advanced Z-Lid can expand to accommodate thicker originals such as books and magazines, making the scanner more versatile than a basic flatbed design.

The Canon CanoScan LiDE 400 is a dedicated scanner.

It does NOT print, make standalone photocopies or fax documents.

The scanner's “Copy” EZ button does not mean that the scanner contains a copier or printer. It initiates a scanning workflow through a connected computer and compatible software/printer. If you need a machine that can print, scan and copy independently, you should purchase a Canon multifunction printer instead.

IMPORTANT: USB CONNECTION REQUIRED

The LiDE 400 does not have built-in Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

It connects to a compatible computer using the supplied USB Type-C cable, which provides both power and data communication. This means you do not need a separate wall power adapter for normal operation.
