A Solid Electric Hot Plate: Works fine, as a hot plate of this type should. From my experience, it takes longer to heat-up than a regular electric stove. Further, regulating the heat to the right steadiness of heat could get tricky. But in all cases, the job gets done; you just can't leave it unattended. If you are boiling water, use your stove or your microwave; it will take forever on this; and as you know, the watched pot never boils. There are few moving parts and the plates are sealed. Clean-up is a breeze with a sponge and some dish soap
