The masquerader by Peggy Oppong

The story centers around a woman named Esinam, who marries a mysterious man named Kapre despite his "unattractive" features and lack of known relatives. Everyone who helped raise Kapre has mysteriously died, and people generally agree he and the "ravishingly beautiful Esinam" are worlds apart. Predicted difficulties in their marriage begin to surface, prompting the arrival of an internationally acclaimed man of God, Professor Demas, who promises to unravel the mystery surrounding Kapre. 

The novel deals with relatable conflicts and has been described as an "African story of our time," focusing on a generation of the African diaspora after independence, driven by optimism and a struggle for survival in Europe.
