1.Applying the Arm Cuff

Insert the air plug into the air jack securely. Wrap the arm cuff firmly in place around your left upper arm The bottom edge of the arm cuff should be 0.5 inch (1 to 2 cm) above the elbow. Air tube is on the inside of your arm and aligned with your middle finger. Secure closed with the fabric fastener

2.How to Sit Correctly

To take a measurement, you need to be relaxed and comfortably seated, under comfortable room temperature. Avoid bathing, drinking alcohol or caffeine, smoking, exercising, or eating 30 minutes before taking a measurement. • Sit in a chair with your legs uncroed and feet flat on the floor. • Sit with your back and arm supported. • The arm cuff should be placed on your arm at the same level as your heart, with the arm resting comfortably on a table.

3.Taking a Measurement

Pre the START/STOP on. The arm cuff will start to inflate automatically Notes: • To stop the measurement, pre the START/STOP on once to deflate the arm cuff. • Remain still and quiet while taking a measurement

Q:What is blood preure?

In the most basic sense, blood preure is a way of measuring how much force is being exerted on the walls of your blood veels (artery) as blood flows through them. A blood measurement is expreed in the form of a fraction. Systolic is the top number. It represents the preure as your heart contracts to pump blood to the body. Diastolic is the bottom number. It represents the preure between beats when your heart relaxes.

Q:Why should I monitor my blood preure at home?

The World Health Organization and American Heart Aociation recommends that anyone with, or at risk of high blood preure, should monitor their blood preure at home. Home blood preure monitoring is one of the best methods of trending a person's blood preure in their own environment.

Some of the more common reasons are: 1.A person's blood preure varies throughout the day, so at any given moment your blood preure can change. 2.In terms of the amount of change, there are published studies that show a given person's blood preure can change by up to 20 mm within a day, based on activity levels, food/drink intake, stre, etc. 3.You may have a condition known as "White Coat Hypertension." This is a condition in which a blood person's blood preure rises above its usual level when it is measured in a doctor's office or clinical setting. 4.You may have a condition known as "ed Hypertension." This is a situation in which a person's blood preure falls below its usual level when it measures in a doctor's office or clinical setting. So do not be alarmed when you see differences between your readings at home compared to your readings in your doctor's office. However, below are some common situations that can lead to inconsistent or inaccurate readings: 1.Not using the cuff correctly Make sure you are wrapping the cuff around your arm in the correct position. After wrapping the cuff around your arm, check the location of the brachial artery marker. The air tube should run down the center of your arm. The cuff should not be wrapped too tight or too loose. Look at the instruction manual for the monitor to get more detailed instructions on the specific cuff included with your unit. 2.Activities right before taking a measurement Avoid eating, drinking alcohol or caffeinated beverages, smoking, exercising, and bathing for 30 minutes prior to taking a measurement. It is also best to rest for 15 minutes before starting the measurement. Avoid taking a measurement during streful times. Take the measurement in a quiet place. 3.Incorrect body position or moving too much Sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor. Rest your arm on a table with your palm facing upward. The cuff should be level with your heart. Do not talk or move during the measurement. 4.Timing of taking measurements Try to take readings at the same general times each day (for example, once in the morning and once at night) for comparison purposes.
