Groot Constantia Pinotage Red Wine - 750ML

Aromas of strawberry and ripe plum dominate the bouquet while careful use of French oak adds layers of delicate vanilla complexity. The ripe red fruit and sweet vanilla continue on the silky palate, which is elegant with a fine tannin structure and long finish, In 1685, during an annual visit to the Cape, Hendrik Adriaan van Rheede tot Drakenstein granted the grounds of Groot Constantia to Simon Van Der Stel, the VOC (Dutch East India Company) Governor of the Cape of Good Hope. Van der Stel built the house and used the land to produce wine as well as other fruits and vegetables and for cattle farming. Following Van der Stel’s death in 1712 the estate was broken up and sold in three parts: Groot Constantia; Klein Constantia; and Bergvliet. The wine cellar was added by Cloete in 1791. The house remained in the possession of the Cloete family until 1885, during which period the estate became famous for its production of Constantia dessert wine. Over the years the wines produced on the estate caught the attention of influential people across the globe – clearly due to their impressive quality. Global aristocracy made sure that they had enough stock of this acclaimed and precious product. Our founder named his farm “Constantia” after the Latin word for constancy or steadfastness. These attributes he valued greatly and today we follow in his footsteps to uphold his enduring legacy of perfection at Groot Constantia.

Intense ruby red. The bouquet shows a mix of ripe red fruits, such as raspberries and plums, framed by toasted oak, following through from the initial scent onto the palate. Soft tannins result in a red wine that is easy to drink and results in a full, round flavor. Hints of dark chocolate, coffee, red cherries, and strawberries on the dry finish.

incredibly rich, spicy, and savory in flavor, resulting in complex flavors of tobacco, smoke, leather, and lashings of licorice. This wine has a deep ruby-red color on the glass. Its aroma is filled with cherries, blueberries, blackberries, and plums with notes of tobacco and pepper.

This is a medium to full-bodied wine with firm yet approachable tannins. It has a nice balanced acidity with an incredible texture making it enjoyable to drink. There are flavors of raspberries, cherries, vanilla, and chocolate followed by hints of toasted oak, smoke, black pepper, and licorice.
